Namaste is the typical greeting you can expect in India. The way it is used is by folding both hands and simply saying Namaste. Another way is to fold both hands, close the eyes and bow a little and say Namaste.

It is used extensively throughout India and is used by most people irrespective of caste, region and language. The meaning of Namaste simple means "I bow to you". Some would like to extend that it means "I bow to the goodness in you". But nonetheless, it means I bow to you in respect. The recipient also reciprocates in a similar fashion.
