Bihar is one of the popular states in India today both in terms of politics and also places to visit. It is said that the history of India is the history of Bihar. All of India was once ruled by kings that comprised of Patna (then Patliputra). Ashoka the great ruled from this capital that stretched from Eastern India to all the way to Afghanistan. 

Some of the places to visit in Bihar is Bodh Gaya, Nalanda, Pawapuri, Rajgir and many others. There is no doubt that these places are very historical and offer insights into the life of Buddha. 

It is here in Bihar where Buddha lived and spent his life preaching the people of Bihar. On the other hand, Mahavira was born and lived in Bihar and founded the religion of Jainism. It is here that religions were formed and Indian philosophy was formed. Any history of philosophy, religion and history should consider visiting Bihar.
